My old home.

I recently moved from Whitefish, MT to Tampa, FL. I was born and raised in Whitefish, just outside of Glacier National Park and some really great skiing. I’ve hiked and climbed, and know my way around the woods. I’ve seen wild mountain goats in my time and enjoyed small town America for what it’s worth. The Great Outdoors don’t get much greater than in Montana.

I decided to move to Tampa because it’s so dramatically different. But I didn’t want to drive all the way there – it’s almost 2,000 miles! So I hired car transport services from auto transport Florida to take my car and ship it to my new home.

Here’s a little story about car transport services.

When I was a kid, my heroes were my uncles and cousins who worked on cars in their driveway. Driveway is a limiting word here, actually, understood in the conventional sense. We took it to mean “anyway you can, drive up on it.”  There were cars and car parts all over the yard.

When my uncle Sid died, his will said to divvy what was left up amongst ourselves, and any disputes were to be settled by a poker game with his daughter dealing. My cousin Lola was one hell of a dealer. Soon as she was eighteen, she left for Reno.When Uncle Sid died, she came home to do what he said.

I bring up car transport services because although we all wanted a piece of Uncle Sid’s workshop (another fancy word for yard), none of the cars really ran. Some of them almost ran. Some of them sat around on cinder blocks.

I had this brilliant idea. I came into possession of a 1988 Corvette 35th Anniversary Special Edition. All white (you already know that if you know ‘Vettes). How did I come into possession of this beauty? That’s a story for another time.

This story is about my brilliant idea, which was, quite simply, to drive this gorgeous gal from Nevada to Miami–the road trip of a lifetime–and then sell her.

People in Miami love ‘Vettes, right? Especially in white? I had only been to Miami once, in college. I’d tell you about it, but you know the old adage: what happens in Miami stays in Miami. There’s good reason for that, too.

As for Vegas, well, sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas, but in fact gets driven cross-country and sold in Miami. Brilliant, right?

Until it wasn’t. When you’ve broken down on the side of some back road in Mississippi due to an overheated engine and no one has the parts for your vintage (yep, ’88 is vintage now) Corvette, you’ll know what I mean.

That’s where auto transporting came into the picture. I was sweating it, in more ways than one. Rather than gamble with Southerners, I decided to cut my losses.  I contacted ABC Auto Transport in good old Florida to see if someone could help me.
